Air ionizer

Health Tips

Air ionizer – a device that increases the number of charged particles – ions in the indoor air.

Most often, corona-based ionizers are used in our premises. These ionizers produce negatively charged ions and spread them around the room.

As a result of the operation of various equipment in residential and work premises (office equipment, televisions, etc.), the use of various finishing materials that can accumulate an electrostatic charge, rare ventilation in winter, as well as high smoke content of city air, the content of negatively charged ions in the air of apartments, offices and other rooms falls below the recommended standards (below 600 ions per cm3).

With an insufficient number of air ions in the air, the process of gas exchange in the lungs is worse, fatigue sets in faster, memory and concentration deteriorate.

Thanks to the works of the famous Soviet A.L. Chizhevsky, was the positive effect of charged air particles on human health in general has been proven. In his work, A.L. Chizhevsky practically proved the healing role of air ions in diseases of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. In an experiment conducted by a scientist, experimental animals that inhaled air enriched with negative ions lived 42% longer than others.

The mechanism of the ionizer

The mechanism of operation for all air ionizers is similar. A high voltage current is applied to the electrodes, under its influence, negatively charged particles – electrons – are formed. Electrons interact with air oxygen molecules in the immediate vicinity of the ionizer and acquire a negative charge.

However, there is also a “dark” side of the ionizer.. Together with oxygen molecules, other particles in the air acquire a negative charge: dust and other contaminants. Having received a negative charge, dust and dirt are attracted to positively charged surfaces: the ceiling, walls, furniture, and also our body. In addition, charged dust (as well as components of tobacco smoke in a smoky room) in some cases is able to penetrate deeper into the lungs during breathing.

To compensate for this side effect, bipolar ionizersin which the second positively charged electrode acts as a trap for heavier particles of dust and dirt. However, although such filters reduce the amount of dust deposited on surfaces, they do not completely eliminate it..

How to choose an ionizer?

When choosing an ionizer, be strict about the availability of certificates. The device must have a technical certificate, as well as a sanitary and hygienicso that you can be sure of its safety for health. Be sure to pay attention to the technical data sheet of the device. The number of ions generated by it should be within the limits recommended for health from 600 to 50,000 ions per cm3.

All ionizers that can be easily found on sale can be divided into two groups.

Large ionizers with a large number of open electrodes, which are designed for large rooms, have a powerful electron flow, are usually permanently mounted under the ceiling or against the wall.

When installing such an ionizer, choose places inaccessible to children (open electrodes can injure a curious child), the surfaces in the room should be easy to clean (due to the powerful electron flow, the dust will settle on the ceiling, walls, etc.), use the device strictly according to instructions.

The second group of devices – small portable ionizers, designed for an area of \u200b\u200bno more than 20 square meters. m. The electrodes in them are hidden inside the case, and the flow of air ions that they create is small. The flow of air ions that they create spreads along a diverging cone from the ionizer to a distance of 2-3 meters. This area is easier to keep clean than the whole room.

When are ionizers contraindicated?

It is not recommended to use the air ionizer for people with malignant neoplasms, elevated body temperature, in conditions of smoky and polluted air.
