The mechanism of the ionizer

The mechanism of operation for all air ionizers is similar. A high voltage current is applied to the electrodes, under its influence, negatively charged particles – electrons – are formed. Electrons interact with air oxygen molecules in the immediate vicinity of the ionizer and acquire a negative charge.

However, there is also a “dark” side of the ionizer.. Together with oxygen molecules, other particles in the air acquire a negative charge: dust and other contaminants. Having received a negative charge, dust and dirt are attracted to positively charged surfaces: the ceiling, walls, furniture, and also our body. In addition, charged dust (as well as components of tobacco smoke in a smoky room) in some cases is able to penetrate deeper into the lungs during breathing.

All ionizers that can be easily found on sale can be divided into two groups.

Large ionizers with a large number of open electrodes, which are designed for large rooms, have a powerful electron flow, are usually permanently mounted under the ceiling or against the wall.

When installing such an ionizer, choose places inaccessible to children (open electrodes can injure a curious child), the surfaces in the room should be easy to clean (due to the powerful electron flow, the dust will settle on the ceiling, walls, etc.), use the device strictly according to instructions.

The second group of devices – small portable ionizers, designed for an area of ​​\u200b\u200bno more than 20 square meters. m. The electrodes in them are hidden inside the case, and the flow of air ions that they create is small. The flow of air ions that they create spreads along a diverging cone from the ionizer to a distance of 2-3 meters. This area is easier to keep clean than the whole room.

When are ionizers contraindicated?
