Philips, with the support of the All-Russian public organization “League of the Health of the Nation”, launches a large-scale social campaign “In the rhythm of the heart” in support of the year of the fight against cardiovascular diseases in Russia. It is aimed at raising the awareness of Russians about the risk of CVD and existing methods of prevention and diagnosis, as well as drawing attention to the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and taking regular care of your heart.

Cardiovascular diseases continue to be the most important problem in the healthcare system of the Russian Federation. They occupy the second place in the structure of morbidity and the first place in the structure of disability and mortality of Russians.

According to statistics, in Russia 53.5% of deaths are due to CVD – the absolute figure is 698 cases per 100,000 population. According to the Ministry of Health, in 2013 the total economic damage from mortality due to cardiovascular diseases amounted to 1 trillion rubles. At the same time, for the period 2013-2020, for every ruble invested in the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, the state will be able to get a return of 7 rubles.

In other words, the implementation of effective measures to promote a healthy lifestyle (proper nutrition and physical activity, smoking cessation and excessive alcohol consumption), prevention and early diagnosis will not only correct the statistical indicators of CVD mortality, but also achieve significant savings in health care costs in country.

The In the Beat of the Heart campaign is supported by Maxim Kuznetsov, Vice President and Head of Philips Consumer Goods in Russia and the CIS, Alexander Ivlev, Managing Partner of Ernst & Young in Russia, and Andrey Bocharov, a well-known actor, director and author of humorous scripts.

By their personal example, the heroes of the project will show that timely cardiological examination and attentive attitude to one’s own health can prevent the possible development of serious diseases. Each participant will undergo a cardio checkup, following which his personal path to a healthy heart will be formed. Under the guidance of a team of highly qualified medical specialists, nutritionists and sports experts, the project heroes will establish a proper diet and receive recommendations on optimal sports activity.

“According to the American Heart Association, the number of deaths worldwide from heart and vascular diseases will reach 23.6 million per year by 2030. According to WHO estimates, Russia is one of the three countries with the highest CVD mortality rate in the world, – says Sergey Chiriev, Head of Cardiology at Philips in Russia and the CIS. “At Philips, we are committed to improving people’s lives through meaningful innovation, and we encourage you to be more responsible for your own health and the health of your loved ones, with regular health care visits and preventive screenings.”

“Today, cardiovascular diseases occupy the first place among diseases that lead to death or disability in Russians. And more and more heart problems appear at a young age. Meanwhile, in the overwhelming majority of cases, cardiac diseases can be prevented, – notes Vlada Sayfetdinova, PhD, General Director of the Alfa Health Center network of multidisciplinary medical centers. – By following the recommendations for a healthy lifestyle and paying close attention to your heart, you can maintain health for many years. We are pleased to join the Philips social campaign “In the rhythm of the heart”, within the framework of which, over the course of two months, cardiologists from our centers in 11 cities will help Russians calculate the risk of CVD and develop measures to reduce it.”

As part of the campaign, Philips, together with the Alfa Health Center network of multidisciplinary medical centers, organizes free cardiological examinations. Services include consultation with a cardiologist (general practitioner), patient interview and physical examination, blood pressure measurement, total cholesterol and glucose levels, and electrocardiography.
