corns

Health Tips

Corns – areas of hyperkeratosis (roughening) of the skin in places of greatest pressure on it. Calluses are located superficially, do not have legs and clear boundaries, can reach large sizes.

Without treatment, corns can persist for a long time, sometimes throughout life, and cause pain when walking.

Reasons for the formation of corns:

According to statistics, women are most susceptible to the formation of corns: their skin on their legs coarsens 10 times more often than men.

In addition to gender, the formation of corns is affected by body weight: the larger it is, the higher the likelihood of getting corns on the foot.

If the shoes are chosen incorrectly, cause inconvenience when walking, tighten the leg, being too narrow, the risk of corns increases.

Deformation of the foot, its fingers can also lead to the formation of corns.

Of great importance is the uniform distribution of body weight on the foot when walking: high-heeled shoes, improper gait, curvature of the spine, flat feet – load the foot unevenly, resulting in the formation of corns.

Signs of corns

Usually corns are painful. Pain is especially strongly felt when walking or pressing on the corns. However, in some cases, corns cause only a cosmetic defect: they look like a spot without clear boundaries, differing in skin color (yellow), when probed, a dense, rough formation is felt.

If the corn grows in size, does not respond to home treatment, is accompanied by redness and swelling of the surrounding tissues or swelling in the joint, and also causes severe anxiety, consult a doctor. Calluses in their initial manifestation are similar to some other diseases, the doctor will help you figure out the diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
