Symptoms of cystitis that you can’t confuse

Cystitis is not one of those diseases that go unnoticed. Typical symptoms:

  • frequent, painful urination;

  • pain in the lower abdomen of a pulling or cutting nature;

  • possible slight rise in body temperature to 37.5, chills.

Sometimes patients may notice an admixture of blood in the urine. Such cystitis is called hemorrhagic.

To confirm the diagnosis, it is enough to pass a general urine test. Remember that there are certain conditions for the collection of analysis, which can be found in the laboratory or from the doctor.

Acute cystitis is considered if a woman is concerned no more than 3 times a year. If this disease has a habit of recurring more than 2 times in six months or more than 3 times in a year, then this is recurrent cystitis.

By the way, cystitis is mainly a female problem, in men it is much less common. This is due to the peculiarities of the anatomy: the female urethra is much shorter and wider than the male, so it is much easier for infections to enter the bladder.

What can cause disease

Cystitis is always a urinary tract infection. In 75% of cases, the “root of evil” is E. coli. But there are many conditions that predispose to cystitis. It can be hypothermia, and diet errors (spicy, salty, alcohol), and even sex. There is a special form of cystitis – postcoital, which occurs after sexual intercourse. Risk factors contribute to a decrease in immune defense and local circulatory disorders, and the infection actively uses this.

By the way, wearing thongs and tight, narrow clothing is also a risk factor for cystitis, as it contributes to the “migration” of pathogenic microbes from the anus and vagina to the external opening of the urethra. For the same reason, women are advised to carefully observe the hygiene of the external genital organs after visiting the toilet.

Conclusion: by following simple rules, you can significantly reduce the risk of cystitis and protect yourself from this unpleasant disease.

How to help yourself with cystitis

I will add that for the occurrence of the disease, a combination of factors is needed: the presence of pathogenic flora, stagnation of urine, violation of the drinking regime, errors in food (excess in salty and spicy foods), decreased immunity, etc.

Let me explain: in itself, a decrease in immunity will not lead to cystitis, but if you violate the drinking regime (drink little water, eat salty foods, plus poor hygiene), then you are guaranteed cystitis.

Moreover, the action of factors should be either prolonged or often occurring, although a single sum of several factors may be sufficient for the occurrence of cystitis or its exacerbation. In winter, the disease manifests itself more often.

The myths around the disease are not so myths. Very tight underwear, string panties can provoke the development of cystitis due to mechanical irritation of the urethra, and if a couple of factors mentioned above are added to this, the diagnosis is secured.

Hypothermia is also a factor that can cause exacerbation. At the same time, we are talking about an already compromised bladder (i.e., there has already been cystitis, and more than once).

I will say more – cystitis can also be primary: acute, occurring for the first time, for example, defloration cystitis (after the first sexual intercourse), or after active sex without the use of lubricants. Cystitis can also accompany such a sexually transmitted disease as gonorrhea. Frequent and painful urination can also occur when sand or small stones pass through the ureters, bladder, and urethra.

Be sure to consult a urologist for examination and appointment of adequate treatment! Do not trust dubious folk remedies.

Before you meet with your doctor, I advise:

  • drink more water – urine will not be as concentrated, which means it will irritate the inflamed bladder less;

  • brew rosehip and drink it like tea, rosehip in this case plays the role of an antiseptic.

  • dress warmly – avoid hypothermia.
