Fatty foods and other bad habits that affect your liver

Health Tips

The structure of the liver ensures that it performs a large number of functions and processes that no artificial device is able to replace. The uniqueness of the liver lies in the fact that almost 1/2–1/3 of its part can be experimentally regenerated, and in patients, cases of restoration of the structure and function of the liver are found in clinical practice. Also, many liver diseases at the initial stage of their development, if the source is removed, may undergo regression. For example, if a patient suffering from hepatitis receives competent antiviral therapy, the liver can recover to a certain extent. Moreover, current research proves that cicatricial changes in the liver, namely fibrosis, is a reversible process.

Dioxins, mercury, lead

For the liver, as well as for the whole organism, dioxins are very dangerous – a special class of chlorine-containing substances that are by-products of many industries, as well as organic compounds of mercury and lead. Dioxins and mercury compounds most often enter the body with contaminated water and food, and lead compounds – with air saturated with car exhaust from low-quality gasoline.

The biggest damage to the liver is alcohol. No matter how much a person drinks it, this volume is distributed over the total volume of blood. With the ingress of alcohol into the blood, the liver begins to work more slowly, additional resource filtration mechanisms are activated in order to have time to neutralize ethanol. Accordingly, problems begin – for example, a liter of blood entered the liver, and two times less came out, the speed of blood flow is disturbed and the volume of waiting blood increases. Moreover, in terms of the development of alcoholic hepatitis, high-quality alcohol is as dangerous as a cheap surrogate.
