Scientists from the University of Manchester in the UK shared the results of a study in which 13,000 people took part. Among them were patients predominantly with arthritis. For 6 months, they described how they felt when windy, wet weather set in. Feelings were shared in a special phone program. The severity of pain was described in points. The application on the smartphone also recorded the air temperature and other weather indicators in the region where the participants of the experiment lived. As a result, it was possible to trace a direct relationship between the exacerbation of pain and damp weather with low atmospheric pressure. That is, in good, neutral weather, the wards of scientists did not notice the exacerbation of the pain syndrome. According to the participants, an accurate weather forecast will help to better plan their activities on certain days.

People who have joint diseases – arthritis, arthrosis can competently talk about the impact on the well-being of the weather. This is explained by the fact that with a decrease in atmospheric pressure (shortly and during cyclones, snow storms), the intra-articular fluid literally bursts the joint – stretching and tangible discomfort occur. This is not fatal, but pain will make itself felt – this, of course, affects the quality of life.

It has long been known that cold and frost increase the risk of heart attacks when there is a violation of the blood supply to the heart muscle. When the temperature drops, the vessels naturally narrow – their spasm occurs. It is especially dangerous to stay at sub-zero temperatures for a long time for people with atherosclerosis, that is, for those whose blood vessels are already narrowed due to cholesterol deposits.

Patients with bronchial asthma are afraid of cold weather – when cold air enters, swelling of the bronchial mucosa occurs – an asthma attack may occur. The situation is aggravated when nasal breathing is difficult (due to a runny nose, for example), that is, a person breathes through his mouth, the air does not have time to warm up. Bronchial obstruction is dangerous!

The heat is fraught with dangers for people with a number of diseases. In particular, those with atherosclerosis of the brain are at risk. At high temperatures (when the thermometer rises above +30), the regulation of the blood supply to the brain is disrupted. Hence the characteristic lethargy, fatigue, and most importantly – the risk of stroke increases. Also, overweight people sweat more in the heat, which means they lose fluid. Dehydration is another “fad” that increases the risk of a heart attack in people at risk.

How to reduce risks

What do doctors advise, how to reduce weather sensitivity? First, stay warm if you have joint problems and know that wet weather makes you feel worse. Secondly, relieve pain with the help of appropriate remedies that your doctor can prescribe. In general, you should adjust your lifestyle, that is, do not overeat, give up alcohol and smoking, introduce at least one useful sports habit into your routine: swimming pool, outdoor walks, yoga, perhaps meditation. With an optimistic attitude, all the troubles, including those with health, are easier to bear, since there is no unnecessary stress. And we add that it is people with a number of the diseases listed above that react to sudden changes in weather conditions. Healthy people have no prerequisites for meteorological dependence.

For example, British scientists have found that during a change in weather and changes in atmospheric pressure, 70% of people suffering from articular pathology experience joint pain.
