How sex changes with age

Health Tips

Sexual function goes through certain stages of its development.

  1. Formative stage with a period of hypersexuality in adolescents.
  2. Entering into a conditionally physiological rhythm associated with a regular sexual life.
  3. The stage of maximum disclosure of one’s sexual potential.
  4. Gradual decline in activity.
  5. Fading.

Of course, the ages in the article are indicated conditionally: a lot depends on the sexual constitution, general health, and psychological factors.

18-25 years old

This is the age at which there are no obvious reasons for problems in the sexual sphere. Men and women are looking for themselves, changing partners. Installation in sex – quantity instead of quality. One of my clients, a 23-year-old man, said that he tries to attend only those parties where he can definitely count on sex. And if he doesn’t get it for free, he turns to professionals. This period of sexual life is associated with experiments. This can be a threesome, and the exchange of partners, as well as sex with people of the same sex (girls experiment more often).

What is not quite normal for this age?

Avoiding sex for a variety of reasons. For example, I have virgin clients who are 30 years old, they are afraid of sex and relationships with men, but they want a family.

Or, for example, replacing real sex with fantasies and masturbation – this is more common for men.

The polar variant is promiscuity, promiscuity.

25-30 years old

As a rule, by this age, many people already create their own families, sex becomes regular. For men, this period accounts for the establishment of a conditionally physiological rhythm – the individual rhythm of sexual life. Depending on the sexual constitution – from daily to once a week. It is clear that the sexual norm is a very conditional concept, therefore, speaking of quantity, we mean the average version. What difficulties in sex can people of this age face? First of all, this is the difference in sexual constitutions in a couple and the conflict of ideas about sex (about the method and frequency of sexual activity). The first problem cannot be fixed. The second can be solved – with the help of a psychotherapist or through long negotiations.

What is not quite normal for this age?

The same as before.

30-40 years old

By the age of 35, women reach the peak of their sexuality, if earlier they could not get an orgasm from sex or not always get it, now every second sexual intercourse ends with an orgasm. Age also makes a woman more relaxed and liberated. She already knows all her desires, erogenous zones and speaks about them directly to her partner. But in men, on the contrary: an age-related decrease in testosterone begins.

Some couples may complain that sex has become boring, happening more as a duty once a month. This can lead to the search for new sensations and connections on the side. This is exactly the age when it’s time to “work on relationships” and maintain sexual attractiveness for a partner.

What is not quite normal for this age?

It is not normal if a man of 30-45 years old has sexual intercourse for less than three minutes, and the erection of the penis is not complete. It is also not normal for a healthy man after 30 to avoid or not be interested in sex.

Frigidity is not normal for a woman.

40-50 years old

This is the age when spouses begin to prefer sleep over sex. After 40 years, testosterone levels in men continue to decrease – and this affects sexual behavior: the husband becomes lazy, passive, he has a tummy (which creates additional problems for a normal erection).

And for a woman, sex continues to play an important role as before – and a situation arises that is the opposite of a youthful one: a woman needs a lot, a man needs a little. Sexual energy is transformed into a scandal.

For the sexual health of men after 40, prolonged sexual abstinence is harmful: it leads to stagnation in the prostate and difficulties with sexual intercourse. Sexologists call this “the widower’s syndrome.” And if at the age of 20 the absence of sex will not have serious consequences, except for unpleasant physical sensations, then at the age of 40 it can put an end to sexual function in general.

50 plus

We will not indicate the upper age limit: a woman is always capable of sex if she is not sick. And in some men, sexual function lasts as long as the heart beats.

Approximately by the age of 50 and later, the menopause begins. Despite vaginal dryness and other problems associated with hormonal changes, many women complain of obsessive thoughts about sex. Psychologically, after menopause, libido can increase, because the fear of unwanted pregnancy disappears.

A man is able to offer less and less. Therefore, it is important to slow down the fading of sexual function. To do this, you need to have sex whenever the desire arises, and not when it is convenient (now that the children have grown up and scattered, and the work has decreased, you have time for yourself). Sex, like any function in the body: use it or lose it – use it or lose it. Once they did not realize their desire, another time, and the third time they wanted to, but they could not, it did not work out. One of my clients, at a respectable age, had sex in the morning when he had a morning erection. After changing this habit, he encountered sexual difficulties.

In women, as a result of hormonal changes in the body, intimate muscles may weaken, and with laughter or tension, involuntary urination may occur. Sexologists advise to train muscles with special simulators.

Undoubtedly, we depend on our physiology, but everyone can prolong their sex life. You just need to love yourself, each other and take care of your health.
