How to remove a bone from the thumb

Health Tips

laser operation

The laser is not a scalpel that damages tissue. The laser instantly disinfects the wound surface, the sutures are practically bloodless due to the microscopic thickness of the incision, and nearby tissues are almost not affected. As a result, the postoperative period passes easily and very quickly.

Any doctor, before suggesting surgery, must notify you that you can remove the bone on the leg with a laser – and this is the safest and most effective method.

It is acceptable at all stages of the development of the disease. Even the most difficult and seemingly hopeless option can be treated. The essence of the operation is simple: a laser beam polishes the protruding joint bone, comparing it with the lateral surface of the foot. In this case, the skin is not cut off, but cut and stretched to the sides, so that a neat seam can then be applied.

The laser beam has a very high temperature, so the bone tissue is actually evaporated. Gradual advancement inside the bone allows you to control the intensity of grinding, so as not to cut off the excess.

However, it is important to understand that the removal of bones on the legs (including with a laser) is not always resurfacing of the joint. Depending on the complexity of the valgus, the surgeon may choose one of the following methods:

  • exostectomy – partial excision of the head of the metatarsal bone, that is, in fact, the bumps. This is the most common operation.
  • osteotomy – partial removal (shortening) of the bone. And the subsequent fixation of it in the correct position.
  • Resection arthroplasty – replacement of the articular block or removal of part of the metatarsophalangeal joint.

What if there is no operation?

Let’s be honest: if the bone has already formed, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to completely get rid of it without surgery. But there are exercises (after the operation, by the way, they should also be performed so as not to lose the achieved results) that can stop the growth of the bump and even partially reduce the curvature of the foot.

Osteopathy generally helps in such situations. The doctor checks the foot for inflammation, injuries, subluxations, for the mobility of all bones: the ankle joint, tarsal and metatarsal bones … The order of interactions is important so that the load on the toes is uniform. Patients simply do not think about it, but this can and should be worked on.

The foot should be maneuverable: firstly, it has a lot of reflex zones, and secondly, it provides cushioning of the spine when moving.

So take a rolling pin!

Everyone in the house has a rolling pin – you can use it to work out your own feet. If you have a very vulnerable and painful foot, then we perform the exercise while sitting. If the bones give you a purely aesthetic concern – standing.

One foot, supporting, let it stand firmly on the floor, the other rests with its toes on a rolling pin. Now we roll the rolling pin on the floor with our foot – from the fingers to the heel and back, trying to press the rolling pin to the floor. Repeat 7-10 times with one leg, then the other.

In order not to hit yourself with a rolling pin on the supporting leg, stand so that the toe of the working foot is approximately at the level of the heel of the supporting one.

This is a very big load not only for the feet: the calf muscle is stretched, the hips and buttocks are trained. It may hurt at first, but you need to roll the rolling pin until the pain goes away.

It is best to do this exercise before bed. Upon completion, you can make a warm bath, lubricate the feet with any warming or softening cream, put on socks and go to bed.

But it is important to exercise your feet daily!
