Why do some people need 10 hours of sleep to feel refreshed, while others are content with 8 or 6 hours of sleep at night?
Scientists from the Academy of Sleep Medicine conducted a large-scale study involving hundreds of volunteers. During the experiment, participants were partially or even completely deprived of the opportunity to fully sleep.
As it turned out, for some, even 4-5 hours of sleep was enough to maintain concentration and performance at a high level. It’s all about the BHLHE41 gene – by mutating, it lengthens the phase of slow sleep, during which the brain’s performance is restored to the maximum.
Carriers of such a gene can sleep for about 5 hours a day without harm to health and at the same time lead a full life.
