Vascular asterisks, pain and heaviness in the legs, swelling in the evenings – all these are signs of vein disease. What is “varicose veins”? Varicose veins is a disease of the vessels of the body, in which protrusions form in the walls of the venous channels due to a malfunction of the valvular apparatus. In places of protrusion, there is an increased adhesion of blood elements to the vascular wall and the formation of a thrombus.

Unlike arterial, venous blood moves from bottom to top with the help of special valves. It should be noted that varicose veins is a disease of all veins of the body, but most often it manifests itself on the legs.

What can lead to this disease?

First of all, standing work (precisely those moments are dangerous when a person just stands – does not walk, does not sit), during which the vessels weaken, and their deformation begins, the first signs of which are swelling of the legs in the evenings and single spider veins.

No less significant is genetic predisposition in people whose close relatives suffer varicose disease (VB). Another factor that adversely affects blood vessels is pregnancy, menses, and a tendency to sit with one leg crossed over the other.

Many more factors can be attributed to this list: smoking, frequent alcohol intake, injuries, systemic and endocrine diseases, liver damage, frequent constipation …

Prevention of WB is movement, movement and again movement.

Plus, giving up bad habits, such as: overeating (excess weight gives an additional unwanted load on the legs), smoking, drinking alcohol and more potent substances. Tight stockings also reduce the risk of developing WB.

There is an opinion that in order to avoid WB, you should give more rest to your legs and walk less – this is not right. Only during passive standing and very long sitting, especially in uncomfortable positions, does blood stagnate with all the ensuing undesirable consequences.

However, excessive loads can also damage. If, nevertheless, your work is connected with prolonged standing, then try to transfer weight from one leg to another, squat.

When sedentary work, try to walk for at least ten minutes an hour or do a light workout, getting up from a chair.

Gymnastics for veins

one. The easiest exercise for people suffering from vein diseases is a bicycle. Lying on your back, rotate your legs, spin imaginary pedals. Starting with 1-2 minutes, increase the time.

2. Starting position: arms along the body, legs together. Take a deep breath as you rise up on your toes. On exhalation, return to the starting position. Repeat 10-15 times.

3. Steps in place. Walk in place for 3-5 minutes without lifting your socks off the floor.

four. Sitting steps. Do the same steps (without taking your socks off the floor) while sitting on a chair.

5. Another exercise that can be performed while sitting, for example, at work. With your toe, write numbers or letters in the air.

What to do if the disease has not bypassed you?

All those suffering from WB should wear special pantyhose to tone the vessels and consult a doctor. There are several treatments.

The first and most common is drug treatment with venotonics and angioprotectors in tablet form (Phlebodia, Detrolex, Troxevasin) plus topical application of ointments with anticoagulants (Troxevasin, Heparin).

Also, one of the methods popular in our country is removal of affected veins. Indications for it are: thrombophlebitis (especially deep veins of the thigh), a decrease in the quality of life due to severe pain and swelling, the progression of the process, despite the ongoing treatment.

The next treatment is sclerosis of varicose veins. This method consists in introducing a special substance into the vessel that causes thrombosis and subsequent fibrosis with the restoration of the vessel wall.

Whether this method of treatment is indicated for you or not, only a doctor can decide, but there are general contraindications for it – these are skin diseases, a large fat layer at the site of the passage of the vessel, a tendency to allergic reactions and an allergy to a sclerosing agent.

One of the VD treatment methods is the CHIVA method, which does not require medical or surgical intervention and gives good results. (certain parts of the vessel are pulled to normalize pressure and blood flow in another part of it). However, it is effective only in the early stages of the disease.

Hirudotherapy (treatment with leeches), laser and radio wave therapy give good results.

What are the complications of WB?

thrombophlebitis, the next stage of which will be the separation of a thrombus and blockage of one of the vessels, followed by the death of tissues supplied by this vessel (development of heart attacks, strokes, gangrene)

Trophic skin disorders (poorly healing wounds, ulcers, eczema)

The development of a strong feeling of heaviness in the legs, edematous or pain syndrome, up to the complete impossibility of movement

Bleeding from varicose veins (this complication is more dangerous in relation to internal organs, when blood loss is not visible and can lead to serious consequences, even death)

Summing up, I would like to recommend to all women: do not start your problems, consult a doctor in time. It is much easier to prevent a disease or cure it at an early stage than to try to overcome an advanced disease for a long time and much less successfully.
