Motion sickness (kinetosis, motion sickness) – occurs when moving in space in transport. A similar set of symptoms can occur on swings, carousels, rides, and so on.

Children under 10 years of age are most susceptible to motion sickness; with age, the tendency to kinetosis decreases. Symptoms of seasickness are less common in older adults. Pregnant women, people with dysfunction of the vestibular apparatus, with intoxication (colds, fever, poisoning, etc.) are more susceptible to motion sickness.

More often than others, people with diseases of the heart and blood vessels, hypotension, suffering from diseases of the stomach and intestines, with osteochondrosis of the cervical spine, with metabolic disorders (obesity) are more prone to manifestations of seasickness.

Where does it sway more often?

In the first place – water transport. On board a ship, the severity of motion sickness symptoms is greatest, especially when it comes to a small sea vessel moving along the coast. The most “safe” places: upper and middle decks, closer to the stern.

Remember:

  • the larger the ship, the less pitching.
  • try to spend as much time as possible traveling on the upper deck;
  • do not look at the water overboard, this makes the nausea worse. It is better to fix your eyes on the horizon, look at the clouds or the sky, that is, concentrate on a relatively stationary object.

The second place belongs to air travel: a large number of passengers experience signs of kinetosis on board. The most “safe” places in the central part of the cabin, between the wings. Choose large aircraft, they fly in the upper atmosphere, less dependent on the turbulence of air masses. In this case, the symptoms of kinetosis develop less frequently – during takeoff and landing.

Cars and buses are not far behind airplanes in terms of the degree of motion sickness in the cabin. The most “safe” places – front, located in the direction of travel. It is recommended to look only forward, fix your eyes on low-level objects (houses, trees), in no case count the objects flashing in the side windows.

On trains, people experience motion sickness symptoms much less frequently. Leadership among linear transport is occupied by high-speed trains, which develop high acceleration during turns. The most “safe” places: initial and central cars, central compartments in them.

Medicines for motion sickness

Of great importance is food on the road and the day before. You can not travel on an empty stomach and after a heavy meal. Before the trip, you need to have a light snack 1-1.5 before leaving the house.

On the road, try to drink more fluids, the symptoms of motion sickness are especially well relieved by acidified drinks (tea with lemon, cranberry juice, dried fruit compotes). Aromatherapy has an excellent effect: rosemary, mint, lemon, ginger or chamomile oils will reduce the symptoms of kinetosis. An ancient remedy for nausea and motion sickness is ginger.

If, despite all the efforts, you still get sick, next time you will have to use medicines. There is no specific remedy for seasickness. Usually drugs from different groups are used.

Before use, be sure to read the instructions for use, as motion sickness remedies have their own contraindications and side effects. Reception should usually begin 30-60 minutes before the trip. These medicines include: “Tsinnarizin” (“Stugeron”), “Dramina”, “Avia-Sea”, “Betaserk”, “Bonin” and others.
