Well, and an ulcer!

Health Tips

Spring and autumn are traditional peaks for many diseases. We suffer from gastritis and depression, insomnia and allergies. An exacerbation of gastric or duodenal ulcer is perhaps one of the most physically painful and psychologically painful spring ailments. An ulcer can stoically endure severe pain and even get used to it to some extent, but sometimes he cannot deny himself the pleasure of gluttony. For which he pays immediately. And the longest queues to the gastroenterologists’ offices grow just after the May holidays with their picnics, barbecues, parties and other “belly holidays”.

It seemed that the causes of ulcers have been known to physicians for a long time. The patients, they say, are to blame for everything themselves: they were fond of dry food, had a bad snack, forgot about lunch, overate marinades and pickles, smoked on an empty stomach … They are paying for this. However, not so long ago, scientists discovered something else: firstly, the infectious origin of peptic ulcer, and secondly, a hereditary predisposition to it.

Those who have an ulcer while being “innocent” are especially offended. But there is nothing to do – you will have to follow a diet in order to appease the painful sore, and to bring the rest of the body back to normal. Indeed, in the pathological process with peptic ulcer, neighboring organs are usually also involved – the liver, intestines, gallbladder, pancreas, metabolism throughout the body is disturbed.

One of the main tasks of the ulcer is a constant decrease in acidity. Acidic gastric juice is a normal environment for the decomposition of food into chemical elements necessary for the body. However, an ulcer (essentially an open wound) is very painful for acid. It not only causes severe pain in the wound, but also corrodes it, increasing the area and depth of tissue damage and reducing the chances of healing.

What to do? First, reduce (ideally, reduce to zero) products for the digestion of which the body releases aggressive acid. Secondly, to establish hormonal balance in the body. The secretion of stomach acid is a process regulated in our body by hormones. And hormonal balance is a fragile thing. It depends not only on the momentary state of the endocrine system, but also, in particular, has a hereditary origin. If your parents gave you such a feature (which they themselves suffer) as increased gastric acidity, you will have to fight it by inhibiting the release of certain hormones with very complex drugs under the supervision of a gastroenterologist and endocrinologist.

However, intervention in the hormonal system is a delicate matter, ambiguous, with unpredictable side effects. That is why sometimes acidity is better not to be eradicated, but to be protected from it. So that, thirdly: acidity is neutralized by all kinds of drugs – from an elementary teaspoon of soda mixed in a glass of warm water to complex and expensive emulsions that envelop the damaged gastric mucosa with an impenetrable film.

If you are an opponent of medical intervention, you cannot afford constant, very tangible expenses for high-quality medicines, or at least you are not going to lose the joys of a feast for the rest of your life, you will have to tackle your ulcer decisively and … get rid of it. After all, like any wound, it will heal quickly with good care. Especially if you realize deep down that you have earned your ulcer yourself by an unrighteous way of life.

Medical nutrition, which can completely defeat peptic ulcer without drug treatment, lasts depending on the size of the ulcer, general health (hence its ability to rapidly regenerate tissues), and concomitant diseases. For complete healing, you will have to be patient and diet for at least a month. However, if you just want to get past the seasonal crisis and quickly relieve the exacerbation of pain, just a few days are enough.

Here is the standard most sparing diet that can relieve the symptoms of the most severe exacerbation. The energy value of the diet is reduced to 1800 kilocalories. The amount of sugar is only 25 g per day. All products are boiled, wiped or steamed. Dishes – liquid or mushy consistency. The share of vegetable fats in their total amount is only a quarter. It is necessary to completely exclude bread and bakery products, as well as vegetable side dishes, dishes from wheat cereals. Here is a sample daily menu:

First breakfast: two soft-boiled eggs, a glass of milk.

Second breakfast: a glass of non-acidic fruit jelly, a glass of milk.

Lunch: rice milk soup, meat steam soufflé, lemon jelly.

Snack: a glass of rosehip broth and a glass of milk.

Dinner: soft-boiled egg, semolina.

At night: milk.

As you can see, milk often appears here, and fat, whole. It has a neutralizing and enveloping effect, since the fats in it are in an emulsified state. Therefore, even to relieve pain attacks, it is recommended to drink a glass of warm whole milk.

Such a diet should be followed for 10-12 days, after which improvement occurs. The ulcer, not irritated by either coarse or spicy food, begins to heal. Over the next 10-12 days, you can increase the total energy value of the diet to 2600 kilocalories. The proportion of vegetable fats increases to a third. With milk or rosehip broth, you can snack on white crackers, making sure that they are chewed and moistened sufficiently.

After completing this course of the diet, it is necessary (in case of a visible improvement) to gradually approach normal nutrition, increasing the energy value of the diet to 3000 kilocalories, but observing the fractional nutrition and three sparing conditions: mechanical, chemical and thermal.

If you only managed to relieve the exacerbation, but the doctors do not promise you complete healing of the ulcer, certain dietary restrictions will have to be observed almost constantly.

You are not harmful:

wheat bread of yesterday’s baking, dry biscuit, dry biscuits, slightly non-butter buns or baked (and not fried in fat!) Pies with unleavened, low-fat and non-acidic fillings;

dairy, vegetable, pureed soups;

chopped and steamed or boiled: beef, chicken, perch, pike perch, cod without tendons, cartilage and skin;

mashed milk porridges, steam puddings, boiled vermicelli;

side dishes of potatoes, carrots, beets, zucchini, pumpkin in the form of mashed potatoes;

soft-boiled eggs or steam omelets;

natural milk, cream, freshly prepared unleavened cottage cheese in the form of souffle, casseroles, lazy dumplings with non-acidic sour cream;

milk and fruit sauces, parsley and dill;

mild cheeses, butter and natural olive oil;

ripe non-acidic fruits and berries boiled, boiled or mashed.

But even sweet berry juices (raspberry and strawberry) are best diluted in half with water. Honey, jams, jams from sweet berries and ready-made sweets are desirable without aromatic, preservative and coloring additives, which are also irritants.
