Why gynecologists do not like the bath, sauna and hammam

Health Tips

Bath, sauna, hammam can be extremely effective for the treatment of a number of gynecological problems. Their action is akin to physiotherapy procedures that are aimed at stimulating the work of one or another organ: due to the thermal effect in the tissues, blood flow improves, they receive an additional portion of nutrients and oxygen. “Enhanced nutrition” helps to restore their functions in a shorter time. Bath and sauna can be useful in violation of the menstrual cycle (amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea), ovarian function, menopausal syndrome, painful menstruation (heat has a beneficial effect on muscles and ligaments, as well as on the autonomic nervous system). Of course, such treatment will be effective in the absence of other contraindications to warming procedures.

Most often, gynecologists give a tap to visit a bath or sauna for the following problems:

Candidiasis

In most cases, women do not take this disease seriously. But in vain! Indeed, with improper treatment, it can develop into a chronic form (recur from four times a year or more), affect other organs. Why are warming procedures dangerous in case of candidiasis? First of all, the fact that humidity and heat is an excellent breeding ground for fungi of the genus Candida. In the bath, at best, you will reduce the previous treatment of thrush, but at worst, exacerbate the problem. Also, do not forget that during the period of candidiasis, the local immunity of the vagina is reduced. If any pathogenic fungi or bacteria enter the cavity, a secondary infection will join the main disease. It is not difficult to pick up such pathogens, for example, in the locker room, on the stone bench of the hammam, and even in the steam room (many microorganisms are insensitive to the effects of high temperatures, which are typical for a Russian bath or sauna). Also, do not forget that you yourself can become a source of infection for other women.

Inflammation of the pelvic organs and vagina

This is the acute phase of the disease. Warming up in this case is dangerous by increased blood flow. Often the causative agents of inflammatory processes are microorganisms (staphylococcus, streptococcus, E. coli), which feel at ease not only on the mucous membrane of the uterus or vagina, but also in any other organ. With the blood stream, they can be carried throughout the body, creating new foci of inflammation.

uterine fibroids

To be honest, there are no statistics and scientific studies that would confirm the harm of a bath or sauna in the case of fibroids. Often a ban on such procedures is done just in case, so as not to provoke the growth of myomatous nodes.

With fibroids, you can afford a hammam and a bath (up to 80 degrees), provided that the disease is at an early stage, does not cause you discomfort (bleeding, pain), you regularly visit a gynecologist to monitor your condition and carefully take the prescribed drugs.

ovarian cysts

Regardless of the type of cyst, it is better to postpone going to the bath or sauna. Increased blood circulation can provoke the growth of the cyst in volume. Taking into account the fact that we turn to bath procedures not so often, two months, which are required, for example, to monitor an ovarian cyst, can be waited out.

Mastopathy

Many doctors categorically forbid a bath for women with mastopathy solely for the purpose of insurance. In principle, such procedures are not forbidden, but in a lighter version. Hammam, of course, is preferable, in second place is the Russian bath. The temperature in the steam room should not exceed 80 degrees, and after that you should not immediately douse yourself with cold water and jump into the pool: contrast procedures are contraindicated in this case. And no brooms! You do not need unnecessary trauma to the mammary glands now.
