Why stuffy nose

Health Tips

Agree, a stuffy nose can deliver enough unpleasant moments, or even turn a person’s life into a real hell. With nasal congestion, the human brain is deprived of a full supply of oxygen, which leads to sleep problems, impaired performance, etc. What can cause nasal congestion and what treatment should be carried out in a given situation, says Goodshapetips.

To ensure proper treatment, you need to determine what exactly caused your illness.

1. With a cold

If you managed to solve the problem with the help of vasoconstrictor nasal drops, most likely the runny nose is a cold or can be caused by hypothermia.

How to proceed: if you are sure that you are dealing with a cold, then call for warming procedures to help – take hot baths for your legs and arms, put mustard plasters on the calf muscles, drink tea with honey, lime blossom or raspberry jam.

In order to relieve congestion (edema), insert cotton flagella deeper into the nostrils with 2-3 drops of a vasoconstrictor and leave for 3-5 minutes. Then carefully clean the contents of the nose, rinse the nostrils with a weak salt solution, and only after that instill vasoconstrictor drops (but it is undesirable to use them for more than 2-3 days in a row).

If it is not possible to defeat a runny nose in a few days, do not postpone a visit to the doctor. Statistics show that 20% of cases of untreated sinusitis are complicated by sinusitis.

2. When “bursting” in the nose

If the use of vasoconstrictor drops does not bring relief, you feel a “bursting” in the nose, a dull pain above the upper jaw or on the side of the wings of the nose, it is probably a sinusitis – inflammation of the paranasal sinuses.

How to proceed: urgently seek help from an ENT doctor. Washing with saline may be appropriate in this case, and remove the swelling with cotton swabs dipped in vasoconstrictor drops.

3. Your nose is constantly stuffed up.

A stuffy nose is a constant phenomenon for you, have you almost never breathed freely through your nose? Most likely, this is the result of an injury or a deviated nasal septum.

How to proceed: in such a situation, consultation with a specialist is necessary; it may be necessary to eliminate this problem with surgical intervention.

4. Polyps in the nose

Do you have difficulty breathing due to the presence of sinusitis or chronic allergic rhinitis, problems with sleep, a weakened sense of smell? In this case, polyps may well be the cause.

How to proceed: in this situation, surgical treatment is indicated.

5. You suffer from a seasonal runny nose

If nasal congestion is accompanied by tearing, sneezing, itching in the nose, liquid discharge is replaced by thick, and you encounter this at certain times of the year (often rainy cold autumn) or in wet weather, then most likely we are talking about chronic rhinitis or seasonal runny nose .

How to proceed: Only a specialist should deal with treatment – no self-treatment!

6. You are allergic

If nasal congestion and runny nose appear during the period of active flowering of plants, in the presence of chemical impurities, dust, etc. These are allergic reactions.

How to proceed: this will require an allergist. But to use vasoconstrictor drops in the nose in this case is pointless.

We hope our tips will help you establish the true causes of nasal congestion. And if you are not sure that a runny nose is caused by a common cold, do not conduct any medical experiments with your own health, but seek help from specialists!
