Women’s health checklist: what tests you need to take between the ages of 18 and 35

Health Tips

It would seem that the age from 18 to 35 is considered the heyday of women’s health. The young body rarely worries. Thoughts immediately arise: why go to the doctors if nothing bothers you. I especially don’t want to sit in queues at free CHI clinics or spend money on medical services in commercial ones. Doctors say: arrogance can be dangerous. A number of diseases are asymptomatic. Therefore, it is worth making a habit of taking such tests annually. ⠀ Ultrasound of the mammary glands, less often – mammography ⠀ Ultrasound allows:

  • control the growth of cystic formations;⁣⁣

  • assess the condition of the breasts in pregnant or lactating women;⁣⁣

  • visualize enlarged lymph nodes in this area;

  • evaluate the condition of breast implants – we all remember the recent story of Lera Kudryavtseva with the extraction of silicone from her breast 15 years later.

By the way, she managed to track the leaking implant using mammography – this analysis is considered mandatory for women after forty years. But many doctors agree that it can be done from the age of 35. And if the patient is at risk of developing cancer (for example, close relatives had cancer), then control is mandatory. Mammography reveals up to 95% of all pathological neoplasms in the breast.⁣⁣ At the same time, it is rarely used for patients under 30 years old, it is believed that at this age the gland tissues are so dense that the result of the study may be erroneous)⁣

It should be remembered that ultrasound, mammography are done from the 5th to the 10th day of the cycle.

Ultrasound of the pelvic organs

⠀ This analysis will allow early detection of ovarian cancer. Often, women do not feel any discomfort until a random visit to the doctor reveals the presence of a tumor. Pain and heaviness in the lower abdomen is a sign that the neoplasm is already present.

smear for cytology
It will help identify precancerous/cancerous cells in the vagina and cervix. Cervical cancer is one of the few types that can be prevented through screening. But not everyone resorts to this method, as a result of which the statistics of women with a similar diagnosis is growing all over the world. In a number of countries, they even offered to vaccinate girls (in fact, they do it in Australia). In Russia, a similar initiative is also being considered.

The main cause of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus infection (HPV). Gynecologists warn: there are a number of signs that may signal a dangerous diagnosis. Among them:

  • recurring bleeding;

  • vaginal discharge;

  • discomfort or pain during sex;

  • lower back pain;

  • weight loss.

All of these signs can signal a number of other diseases, therefore they are often ignored by women. Better make sure you’re okay.

Tests for infections by PCR

The PCR method uses the principles of molecular biology. Special enzymes are used that repeatedly copy RNA and DNA fragments of pathogens that are in biomaterial samples. Laboratory workers check the obtained fragments with the database, identify the type of pathogen and its concentration. Preparation for PCR diagnostics directly depends on the type of biomaterial. Blood and urine, as everyone remembers, are taken on an empty stomach in the morning.

In this place, many will say: I live with one partner, I am sure of him – does it make sense to take such an analysis? Gynecologists will answer in chorus: yes. It is not uncommon for women to be surprised to learn a lot of new things after taking tests. Do not shift the responsibility for your health to someone else. ⠀ The same applies to tests for HIV, hepatitis (C / B), syphilis. They must be on your checklist.
